It's very interesting that as each person is a unique self directing path through the search space it makes sense when they wish to terminate their meaning generation trajectory, as is their right... but because people are all casually connected to them the loss of that person reduces the meaning generation capacity, novelty and even the shape of the survivors meaning generation (like shutting off a frequency or drilling a hole im a Chladni plate.)

So we have this push and pull, the enders decision is a valid terminus and the survivors are actually diminished.
