My perspective on parenting: They own me nothing and I took on a lifelong debt to that is repaid thru service to them (I have 5 adult sons).

That said, if I face years of crippling pain or severe dementia, I want the ability to end my suffering. I believe that control would make suffering more manageable - it's easier to endure suffering when I know it's end isn't out of reach.
