Isn't the obvious answer that closed labs are massively subsidizing your usage using investor dollars? That's nice for today's users, but that isn't sustainable long term.

The fact that open models are even close despite an unfair playing field is telling

As stocks fall and the investment money dries up, it'll be easier and cheaper to buy hardware to run local models
