I'm Caleb, co-founder/CTO. VALIS builds data products for scrap metal recyclers. Our VALI-Sample devices image, weigh, and classify scrap, and our platform turns that into production and quality analytics at plants across the US. Recycled metal takes a fraction of the energy of mined metal, and better data means more of it gets recovered.
We're hiring an engineer to build our next product line from a blank page: production tracking and analytics for recycling plants. We're a small team (<10 ppl). What you'd work on (ideate, build, deploy, own):
- Modeling a complex (and intellectually stimulating) physical process
- Agentic features that dig through production and quality data, surface trends, flag anomalies, and notify the right people
- Working directly with customers: regular calls with operators and plant managers, plus a few site visits a year
You should have 3+ years of experience, strong data modeling fundamentals, and like owning ambiguous problems end to end. We care more about how you think than what exactly you've used. Recycling, ERP/MES, or ops software experience is a plus.
