Honestly, I don't believe it. My family rented a plug-in hybrid BYD car this summer in Georgia (the country). Our combined luggage was definitely more than 40kg in total, and we had zero problems with that. It also looks like there are no mass complaints about trunk panels breaking.

BTW, the car itself was fine, not the most luxurious but also not the cheapest possible box. My issues were mostly with weak USB-C ports in the front and with the sluggish cruise control.
