That should be the case, but you'd be surprised how many people just run stock dwm. I don't get it.

All of the "suckless" distributions beg to be patched.

Is there a nice place curating the best patches? Or a bespoke distribution of sorts for dwm?

The best place to go for curated patches is here. You can customize these or roll your own once you have a chance to examine the source code. dwm is very simple.
