Do elaborate. I feel I'm getting this idea, but maybe not the same way you meant it...

Code is a great serialization, but writing code is a poor substitution for dreaming.

I want to dream and build, not write code. And certainly not hole punch punch cards or whatever our ancestors had to do.

Code is/was fun sometimes, but not always. Plumbing and glue code sucks, for instance. Even in the best times, programming by hand was largely a means to an end. There are far more entertaining things than any of this.

Thanks for clarifying. It's interesting because most programmers I know who dream a lot about making stuff and are the "get things done" kind, they liked plumbing and glueing code together, and are now of course AI enjoyers...

If I understand correctly you'd much prefer your ideas to materialize, and be spared of the implementation effort.

I'd like to live forever and explore the universe and live a billion trillion lives and build galactic empires. But we're a bit absent of that.

It's not about effort. It's about scope and scale and wonder.

Software programming can't live up to that. It's just manipulating symbols in a buffer that do some things. Nudging symbols around is cool, but there are so many even more amazing things left to unlock and do in the universe that are still out of reach.

"Born too soon", as they say. AI at least feels as though it's trending in the right direction.

I enjoy the effort - most of the time. I don't enjoy the time burned on what amounts to a very small portion of the entire chain of creation.
