As opposed to astronomy/physics which starts with math (Ge wiz, this equation predict a very strange new type of star/particle) drives through software engineering (algorithms to search existing data sets) before landing at grant writing to empower the next generation (I haven't found it in existing data so I want 1.37 billion to build a better telescope/accelerator that might!). Then, if one has truly mastered the three disciplines of math, software and grant writing, the Nobel committee might recognize your contribution... if anyone else is still alive who can remember your phone number or mailing address.
