gambling - where the statistical odds are that you lose

investing - where the odds are you win

Gambling is always zero-sum. Investing is not.

Not for the gambler, if a bookie/casino is involved.

That's still zero-sum. The casino or bookie lost money.

Casinos and bookies only stay in business because most gamblers lose. So even gamblers who win do so ultimately at the expense of gamblers who lose.

Successful investments are positive sum. They create new value.
