"engineer" is not wrong. But first and foremost, he is a researcher who invented deep learning, which is the foundation for modern neural networks. He no longer works for Facebook and is pursuing his own independent project: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yann_LeCun#AMI_Labs

Not to derail the conversation, but what is "deep leaning" really?

Around 2000 we figured out how to train really deep (long) neural networks by deactivating parts of the network in each training round. This is called dropout and was discovered by UoT and later put to real use by DeepMind.

LeCun was not involved in that AFAIK, his contribution was mainly for convolutional networks which is usually not that deep.
