It's nothing more than US libertarian think tank trying to influence EU policy... Perhaps in an effort to push more anti climate change agenda/discourse in US (but that might be just my projection).

Thank you, case closed.

I think even when it's 45C and your boomers cook alive in their concrete ovens, I will still see these sneering opinions from the enlightened master race, civilized to the point of welcoming their own extinction to preserve the klimat for someone else's children.
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by tempfile on Thursday August 27, 2026 @08:45AM (#49463970)
Lazy climate change denialism, nobody is convinced.
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by vlyan on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:12AM (#49464393)
acknowledging that climate has changed is climate change denialism?
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by tempfile on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:21AM (#49464512)
What did you mean by "preserve the klimat for someone else's children" then?
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by vlyan on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:43AM (#49464814)
aboriginal Europeans' TFR is about 1.2 and falling. even if did remain that high (it won't!), 750M will become <100M in 100 years and <10M in 200 years. Europeans have already adopted the most effective strategy imaginable to fight klimat change -- extinction.

so I don't think it's fair to scold Hans from Hamburg over his carbon footprint. Abdul from Mogadishu may emit less CO2 over his own lifetime, but each of his 5 children will have 5 children, and no one will scold him for it.

Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by tempfile on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:58AM (#49465016)
So Hans can do whatever he likes because you want to blame Abdul for the cumulative sum of all his descendants?
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by vlyan on Thursday August 27, 2026 @10:30AM (#49465515)
yes. does that not make sense to you? unless Hans is a young global leader who flies his private jet to Davos every year to urge proles to eat ze bugs, his carbon footprint will be less than that of someone with children.

(I would use something other than "Abdul from Mogadishu" as the counterpart, but the only remotely European people not going extinct are some subgroups of Israeli Jews.)

What?

Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by vlyan on Thursday August 27, 2026 @01:37PM (#49468383)
not a single European country has the TFR anywhere near 2. with the median age now reaching >=40, the TFR of 1.0-1.5 means rapid and irreversible decline. is this news to you?
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by esseph on Thursday August 27, 2026 @02:29PM (#49469177)
Not at all, I just don't fucking care at all. It's irrelevant.

Race is not something I care about, and cultures come and go.

The groups we were 10,000 years ago are not the groups we have now, which are not what the groups will be 10,000 years from now.

Big whoop.

yes, yes, very virtuous of you, now back to my point: why should Hans give a flying fuck about climate change if he will have no descendants to suffer from it?

You have a very bleak view of the world, I'm sorry. I have hope for you though.

70 day old account. You're replying to a 70 day old account. Just don't.

it's a throwaway. it's 70 day old because two or three controversial comments in a row get accounts without 100000000 karma ratelimited to one comment per infinity. when it happens I make another. my squeaky clean main account is older than yours.
Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by AlexeyBelov on Sunday August 30, 2026 @04:00AM (#49496672)
It's a throwaway troll account. I know of three other accounts of the same user. The issue is not a couple of slightly downvoted comments, it's persistent trolling.

The ability to create new accounts so easily and be a nuisance is my least favourite "feature" of HN.

would you prefer to log in with Gosuslugi upon approval from Roskomnadzor?

psycho stalkers who will go through your whole comment history to construct an ad hominem are half the reason why people use throwaways, btw ;)

Go use Habr or whatever.

[citation needed] :)

edit: (well the author decided to remove part of his comment mentioning "face-condoms", too bad)

Re:Air Conditioning Is Not a Luxury, It Is a Necessity by vlyan on Thursday August 27, 2026 @09:08AM (#49464319)
okay, sure. I only removed it because I know that questioning the mass hysteria of that brief era gets you flagged.

>the RKI estimated roughly 2,600–4,900 heat-related deaths annually in 2022–2025

>Germany reported about 2,800 COVID-19-associated deaths in the 2024/25 season, which covers most of the 2025 winter and spring.

so yes, taking Germany as the example, the world-ending plague now kills fewer boomers per year than summer does, despite it being over 4 years since anyone wore face condoms or gave a shit about bi-weekly boosters.

Case closed that europe got tens of thousands excess deaths from heatwaves?

Yes
