I still remember reading the scene (spoiler alert) in which the protagonist is in Petrovichs (the inspectors) office, and they play around with different ideas of who the murderer of the old woman could be, Rodion Romanovich still thinking that he is merely helping this half-wit police inspector with some ideas. But Petrovich dismisses one theory after another, and finally Rodion Romanovich asks the frustrated question "Then who is the murderer?!?".
> “Who is the murderer?” [Petrovich] repeated, as though unable to believe his ears. “You, Rodion Romanovich! You are the murderer,” he added almost in a whisper, in a voice of genuine conviction.

It's an incredibly strong scene.
