What you describe is the principle of presumption of innocence. Shame it seems to be a lost concept in the land of the free nowadays.

I feel it goes a bit beyond that, because at this point it's also the presumption that those governments are operating recklessly and with knowing dishonestly.

You could argue that presuming you're an alien implies that rights given by law don't necessarily apply to you. It's far worse than being presumed guilty.

This is why due process is so important, and why it's terrifying that it's being hand-waved away.

If you had a problem with Bush & Obama suspending habeas corpus, this should be setting off alarm bells for you if, for whatever reason, recent events haven't.

That's not true, there was massive coverage of that sort of thing during the Obama administration. There's a reason DACA was a major portion of Obama's efforts.

And also, many actual progressives hate Obama too for many of these anti democratic decisions.

If the person considers Obama a saint and Trump a demon, then I have to wonder why.

"equally" is highly suspect. Just like most presidents on both the R & D sides, Obama made a bunch of mistakes and was no saint. Trump cannot be considered normal or lumped together with "most presidents".
