Covid constrained the supply of new cars, leading used car prices to skyrocket. It's not easy for the average person to evaluate whether a used car from a private seller is in good condition. A Carfax report is thin on details other than its crash history. Cars in good condition sell very fast, so I can understand why people choose to buy a new car that comes with a warranty, especially if they live in a town where cars are necessary to get around.
