Almost everybody knows python these days, almost nobody knows Perl. It's not weird that OP chose a language they already knew.

I am not saying it is weird, I was just responding to parent with regarding to "string manipulation", and someone mentioned "performance", so I stated two facts about Perl.

I do not care whether or not this project is written in Python. Sure, he chose Python because he is more familiar with it. That is fair enough to me.
