The best way to get leverage is to make sacrifices that the company cannot live without. Then use that leverage to make others behave. Then use that behavior to make others happy. Then use that happiness to make yourself known. Then use that fame to make yourself important. Then use that importance to make your way through, instead of arguing about it.

But small entitled jerks would rather lose everything than have to bow down to someone who makes them behave.
