IMHO it's not entirely tangential. The use of AI images in an article goes to the credibility of the author. That is:

- if they don't recognize the ethical problem with such images, what other ethical oversights are they making?

- if they do recognize the ethical problems but choose to use such images anyway, what other knowingly-unethical behaviours do they do?

For someone claiming to do journalism, both questions apply directly to their integrity as a journalist.
