OK, forget reusability. Is a 10-page program written in WEB more maintainable and readable than a 6-line shell script?

Uh uh. We could assume the Pascal program was written in an environment which lacked UNIX utilities. The 6-line shell script is only better if you can run it at all.
Knut's program's most glaring flaw isn't its length, but its monolithic architecture.
