Ask HN: How do I learn data journalism?

Posted by datacareerswap on Wednesday January 01, 2025 @12:45PM
from the ask-hn dept.

I have had a career in BI engineering for over a decade and I would like to use my skills for good. One of the fields I think I could do some good in is data journalism and investigations. How do I get started in this field?

Drop an email if you want some stories. Check out my comments if you want to get a general vibe of how crazy I am.

In the absence of that I would really encourage you to get familiar w/ QGIS and EU satellite data.

David Mamet's "Masterclass" on dramatic writing helped me with programming believe it or not.

Bob Woodward has such a course. It is good and could be of use to you.
