Re:Consider Rexx for Scripting (2022) by graycat on Wednesday December 11, 2024 @07:37PM (#42394838)
On Windows with .NET, ASP.NET, etc. my 100% scripting language is OORexx (Object Oriented Rexx). It has a good PDF, some advanced object features (often optional, that is, can still just have procedures with arguments, call and return, and scope for variables), claims to run on both Linux and Windows, has some extentions for numerical versions of standard mathematical functions, TCP/IP, etc., and is just awash in functions and objects for working with Windows (can move screen windows, work with file system trees, etc.).

Sure, I can believe that Python is more powerful, and when Rexx and .NET fail me I'll take a look at Python.

I'm programming for my startup which, for one, means that I use tools as useful for my startup -- the main interest, focus, consideration is not the programming tools but the BUSINESS of the startup.

Yes, early in my career, rushed to learn everything could about any programming techniques, tools. While had a good math education, also rushed to learn everything could about details of applications of applied math (statistics, optimization, algorithms, numerical analysis, digital filtering, Monte Carlo simulation, etc.), really soaking up tools ASAP. That DID get a good career going, but eventually concluded that I had to OWN a business, concentrate on the BUSINESS, use the tools as the BUSINESS needed, and maybe even do some original applied math to help the, mentioned, the BUSINESS?

So, Python? Sure, when the business says so.

Rexx? NICE tool for the business.

Favorite editor, indeed, most heavily used tool, Kedit. Once the tight integration between Rexx and Kedit was dropped, Kedit got its own macro language called Kexx -- it doesn't have as much as OORexx but has about all of Rexx that Kedit used.
