> Filings show that bailiffs appropriated the company’s bank account after a Moscow court ruled that it should pay damages to Tsargrad TV, an Orthodox propaganda channel ... Russian courts have said Google should pay the three TV channels [RT, Tsargrad TV and NFPT] huge sums in compensation for removing them from YouTube and deleting their Google accounts ... Google is seeking a ruling to block the broadcasters from pursuing its assets in foreign jurisdictions such as South Africa, Turkey and Serbia ... According to the Turkish filings, Russian courts have determined that Google owes Tsargrad 32.8bn roubles (£273m). However, because the daily penalties to the company double every 24 hours, this sum could grow to dwarf Google’s entire market value.

Glad that some court finally had the balls to actually levy some meaningful fine as penalty on Google for arbitrarily deleting Google accounts. Google's excuse that it was complying with American / European sanction is stupid as no sovereign country will accept foreign laws being applied in its territory. I am actually surprised that it has taken this long for countries to start reacting against the threat of foreign platforms since the Snowden revelations. If propaganda on the internet is a threat to democracy, then there is nothing wrong in enacting laws against these foreign platforms that allow the creation and spread of this very propaganda to comply with local laws over that of their parent country.
