Today I learned that cross-posting blogs for getting backlinks can destroy your website authority.

If you are cross-posting on high Domain Ranking sites then even if your URL was indexed first Google may still associate the content to the high DR site and attribute your original post as spam.

To avoid this add a rel="canonical" link on the site you wish to cross-post to indicate to Google that your page is the original source and all credit for content on the cross-post page should go to your site.

Medium and Dev_to I have found out allow you to add the canonical link. But To add this you must go to settings and set these links.

Another way to avoid being marked as spam by Google is to only publish your content on other sites and not your own. ----
