Theobromines found in a single piece of chocolate can kill a dog. Animal models have limited ability to predict what will happen in humans.

My understanding is that’s usually meant to mean a bar of milk chocolate or a smaller piece of dark chocolate. Though I could be absolutely wrong.

I don't think think the concern in this case is any perceived possible human danger, but the actual real danger to the pets.
