I can't believe this kind of take is still bouncing around given the sentence SBF got. After FTX collapsed there were a lot of people claiming that he wouldn't do any time at all, based on nothing more than a cartoonish understanding of how political donations and influence work. SBF got a totally reasonable punishment for a first time offender who stole a massive amount of money, and he will spend many years in prison.

It's hilarious how people think you can make a few donations and ride that good will for ever.

Once you stop being able to give future donations your political capital falls to nil.

I won’t be so sure, pardons are possible , people convicted of far worse crimes than him have been pardoned in the dying days of a presidency.

It is quite possible in few years his political capital would be useful for that (with some new donations of course ).
