Maybe our western cultures are just a bit shit, nowadays? Too much hedonism and self-centeredness, marriage means nothing, commitment is a joke, people have very wonky moral compasses and most of them make terrible spouses let alone parents. Moreover having kids is not really celebrated. Your parents will be happy, but for everyone else you are now a nuisance. Most social establishments are hostile to young families. And what's more, when the kids grow up they will be brainwashed by whatever diarrhea content* is on their shiny electronic gadgets and mentally kidnapped into a different social bubble where you won't be able to relate to them at all and where they might even lose all respect or try to cut contact with you. If you are lucky they will come to their senses again later on, but when you get old you are probably still going to end up in a hospice, because they are too busy or live far away.

* Does anyone else find the amount of intergenerational infighting on sites like Reddit extremely alarming? Why do Redditors hate their parents so much?
