Some kind of more button like UI element will inevitably come back. Wait for 5 or 10 years and new designers will look at flat UIs as something that their parents and old people used. They'll want something different as a statement of being new and hot, them and the products they'll be working on. It happens in fashion with colors, shapes and even with full clothes. It's going to happen with UIs too.
