Imo this is a direct response given the other post costs money.

Who cares about money? Being free seems much more important.

No, free software is different than "does not cost money". You can pay for free software. For example the OS of my TV (not a smart TV but still) is free and opensource, yet I paid for it when I bought my TV.

Why did you buy a non-smart TV with an OS?
Re:Free and Open Source Alternative to Airdrop by linkdd on Sunday January 21, 2024 @11:12AM (#39079753)
I bought it 10 years ago, it cost me less than 50€. And every interactive device has an operating system, no matter how simple it is. Just to accept inputs from my remote and displaying menus to configure lightning/colors/volumes/etc., it needs an OS.

I am somewhat curious what you think "free speech" means.
Re:Free and Open Source Alternative to Airdrop by geor9e on Sunday January 21, 2024 @03:50PM (#39082898)
Is this some sort of HN meme where we purposely use the wrong word sense of "free" in order to stir a semantic argument?

I hate this. That's not what free means to 99% of consumers. I refuse to use it that way.

That's what I thought too
