I don't see images in my eyes like that either. There are a few things that are sorta, I dunno, weird about vision. Mine anyway.
The edge of sleep. Maybe they're just vivid dreams or something, but as my brain shuts down at night or starts up in the morning, there's usually a time when I can visualize stuff "as though it were real". Maybe there's just no counter evidence, so I fool myself. But it seems like I can make really complicated vivid scenes with stuff moving around. Maybe some people can do this more at-will than me. (or us)
Left eye right eye. Sometimes, especially after getting a new prescription. I can choose which eye to look out of. I know I'm seeing out of both, but it sorta filters out one. I don't think my eyes see exactly the same colors. They're very close, but not dead exact. I've got a couple of floaters in my eyes, and it can be handy to switch looking out of one eye or the other.
Really looking. The floor is down there, I know it, but I ignore it. If I really look and pay attention, I can see like streaks from mopping and tons of fine details I never care about. I think I can sometimes turn those filters off and on. Not exactly projecting into my vision, but pretty easy to select between what does the floor look like with and without mop streaks? Maybe some people can do that better, or more elaborately, like changing color or brightness. I don't know, I can't really see what they see.
In general though, yeah. I suspect we see pretty much the same way. I think of a red car, and it's kind of a red toy car in the middle of my head, not floating in space in front of me.
