And after writing that I realised strength training is one of the recovery shortcuts for pacing. Smart people probably read this and think Doh, I'd be fatigued if I had that guy's problem solving ability.
There are plenty of other shortcuts.
I think this is the gist of what I'm whinging about regarding CFS treatment options.
More people would recover faster if Mindfullness wasn't the only tool available to shorten the process of pacing one's self to recovery. Being chill and walking carefully will work for less debilitated people. The really debilitated people are sensibly avoiding exertion, they aren't signing up for an underresourced olympic swim team .
When being chill and walking doesn't work some observers including family think in a Ricky Gervais accent "he's either whingeing or lazy, probably a combination". That would probably be my thinking had I not experienced cfs. The funny bit is cfs sufferers are extremely sensitive to criticism - like anyone falling down maslow's hierarchy and worrying about their future social status and safety- which is why Gervais is a comic genius for doing a piece on it because lots of people are managing that same problem without cfs. Cfs is a convenient excuse and other humans get tetchy about normalising excuses. Larry David has some great bits on nobody asking him about his cancer results, separating from a new partner after they are diagnosed with cancer and using aspergers as an excuse for his poor behaviour which also loosely ties to how the condition is perceived and treated by the public.
If you don't laugh you cry. I forgot to put laughter as one of the important treatment steps.
