Plus if your work is scoped in a smart way and you're not just in a Scrum sweatshop where a committee decides how many "points" your work is going to cost, you won't really need to spend much time bouncing ideas around except when it's enjoyable and organic to do so because there's an interesting engineering problem to discuss and enjoy. This can happen via group chats or small calls. In a properly run team, every IC should be working largely independently on a specific chunk of the codebase or a specific project. When that is the case, there's no need for bouncing ideas around except at a very high level when it's fun because you solved an interesting problem and want to get more ideas. Anyone who is truly stuck can still ask for help in a remote world.
I've been in tech for ten years and I never saw a legitimate occurrence of serendipitous spontaneity illuminating someone's thought process into some massive feat of superhuman programming ability. I wonder how much of that wishful thinking is from people who pre-pandemic would spend their days in useless meetings and a lot of cooler talk because they can't code their way out of a paper bag.
