Yeah, it has nothing at all to do with his behavior or beliefs. It's just irrational internet hatred of an otherwise beloved benevolent dictator. He certainly doesn't accuse people who are mildly critical of him of being pedophiles. He, as a "free speech absolutist", certainly doesn't deserve any criticism for banning people who are critical of him. It's just uninformed "group think" and the Elon Stans are the folks with the real clear vision of what world changing advances Elon Musk is pursing are the real visionaries! Alternatively, you've hitched your wagon to a piece of shit and you're tired of deflecting from his antics so you blame other people for pointing out the issues.

Come on. Let’s rise above this rabble rousing. HN is better than this.
Let’s elevate the discussion beyond ad-hominems about this man. He is doing more for the long-term future of humanity than most of us, and our views on his personality really aren’t worth this constant examination.

His achievements are well known, but they are not the main topic of discussion here. Being a successful entrepreneur, inventor or innovator shouldn't shield you from criticism for your personal actions.
"But I respectfully submit there’s a chance that, like his entire $44 billion bet on Twitter, those were just Musk utterly out of his depth."
Completely unbearable.
Those of us who don’t want to be part of this politicised nastiness know we will be ostracised, so we don’t speak out against it.
And so the hateful groupthink persists.

No thanks.
Only the ones that pass your moral standards are allowed to be celebrated for their achievements?
Sounds pretty anti-science to me.

This was also an empty promise.
