But maybe not for the amounts we talk about when it comes to charging. Thinking of it, I cannot remember whem I last saw someone pay cash at a gas station. Most pay by card.

I've seen it happen, mostly on stations being operated on very out of the way gas stations. A handful have been pure cash only. Some are credit card operated but are very crudely implemented; the cash register inside had to manually prepay and then refund the car. The last one I went to was able to charge credit card but had to refund cash for the difference between what was prepaid vs what was actually filled with.

We have a lot of unmanned stations here. No option for cash payments so most will just pay with card. And it seems to work well enough.
