It seems the system will self-correct when college enrollment plummets because young people see the consequences of debt and don't want to sign up for it anymore. Then, the government could start routinely forgiving student debt to re-encourage enrollment. So it becomes a system where the government prints the arbitrary amounts of money the schools are asking for, and handing it to them. Then the system would self-correct when voters vote out all the politicians who support these policies because they're sick of the real tax and inflation tax burden this imposes on them. Assuming of course that voters vote in their own real interest, instead of being sucked into rage-bait and voting against themselves.
