I admit GPT4 is useful, and I have been using it extensively in a fair number of different projects lately. And all it does for me is save time typing. I still have to think exactly the same amount I had to before. I do think its going to improve efficiencies and there will be moderate economic effects, but I also wouldn't say programming is qualitatively a different thing. In a few years, who knows? But the main issue as I see it is that ultimately programs must interact with the real world and solve problems for which there is not an abundance of training data. It isn't that I think it is impossible to build AIs to work in those domains, but I think our current approaches might be slower getting there than the leap to GPT4 encourages us to believe.
