I have no idea how things will change over time, but my daughter has autism and her tablet has been one of the few things to have a positive impact on her development. When her brother was 2, we had to get him his own tablet since he started stealing hers and causing fights. We were very worried at first because he would obsess over it and get sucked into watching video after video, or occasionally play a baby game. We worried about his eye sight, his attention span, everything. One year later and he has very little interest in it now. He's way more interested in playing with toys and will often go a full week without touching it.
I'm not sure if this strategy will work when he becomes aware of social media, but for now he's at least learned that there's more enjoyable things then just whats on a screen.
