Re:Indian Citizenship Act of 1924 by hirundo on Monday May 08, 2023 @08:40PM (#35868874)
It seems wrong for this to take effect by unilateral statute. What right did Congress have to impose duties such as conscription and taxation on a theretofore foreign, conquered people? For legitimacy it would require consent, like a treaty supported by plebiscite.

As recompense perhaps there should be an amnesty period in which descendants of such compulsory citizens could take the option to renounce their U.S. citizenship without the onerous tax obligations. A get-out-of-U.S.-free card.
