IMO the reason it seems low is that people get such unreasonably long sentences for doing far less.
And 11 federal years is a longer sentence than 11 years in most state systems, since there is much less opportunity to serve less than a full sentence in the federal system (short of executive pardon/commutation). There’s very limited good conduct time, but no systematic parole eligibility and early release.
Agreed. Of course she deserves more prison time for scamming the patients, but she wasn't convicted for that.
anyway, you are insanely ignorant. these people, who were probably smarter than you, have a job in society. that job is capital allocation. in communist countries, there is no private capital allocation and those countries implode. the job must come down to 'idiot rich people.' capital allocation is what powers everything in our economy. we couldnt have anything without it. we couldnt have your iphone. the screen youre reading this on. the servers that will transport this message to you. its fundamental. people like holmes damage our capital allocation ecosystem. sure, holmes by herself didnt lead to an economic collapse, but an individual bank robber doesnt cause the banking system to collapse. its extremely important that people who commit crimes that chip away at these fundamental pieces of societal infrastructure are punished in a way that provides very compelling disincentive. 11 years for the damage she did to progressive womens movements, for the medical malpractice, for destroying all the unbelievably useful and worthwhile things that could have been done with those billions and all the lives that she touched. she should at least be separated from society for the rest of her life.
