I basically learned to decouple the services from the OS it's running on (back before containers and all were a thing) so I focused on making it easy to spin up a new machine and restore a service. Over time, this made OS upgrades immaterial and made it easy to spin up an additional instance.

This led to containerization and virtual machines being a good fit for my habits.
