The older I get the more puritan I become. And I've lived, believe me.
While I am single and childless, and do wonder if the proper orientation of adults in society is to make a good world for children. I think that without this permanent tether to innocence we lose what makes us great as a species. I do wonder if a society oriented toward the fulfillment of adults is an inherently sociopathic society.
'Will somebody think of the children?' is for me, now, a powerful counter-cultural rallying call. We need to get our vice in check.
My greatest memories growing up were of some of the most boring people. Stable. Loving. Safe.
I wish we truly cherished these people on a societal level. I wish we honored them non-ironically. And perhaps, I wish we made society in their image.
