Without (a) hype there would be no (b) allegations of overhype.

The parent cannot tell what is worse, (a) or (b).

Given that there is no (b) without (a) the question seems like a no-brainer.

We are being inundated with endless web user-generated "content" about ChatGPT^1, the number of HN submissions about ChatGPT is ridiculous, but I have yet to see a single submission that suggests ChatGPT is "not useful". Instead it appears to be a lame reponse to any discussion of ChatGPT's "limitations" to assert, "Yeah but it's really useful." To me, that defensiveness is a red flag. This is like "Watson", Round 2. With the mindless appeal of ELIZA.

1. We'll soon be inundated with machine-generated "content" sourced from previous web "content".^2 NB. ChatGPT relies on GPT-3 and thus only uses web "content" up to 2020. Ask ChatGPT about some current events.

2. But OpenAI is apparently prohibited from using Twitter "content", even though Musk co-founded OpenAI. There is a backstory.
