Is there an alternative to hamburger buttons we could popularize that is more discoverable for users?
Maybe the regular horizontal menu bar except allow it to scroll horizontally when it overflows? Google currently uses that pattern for their secondary menu bar under the search field when viewed on mobile: https://www.google.com/search?q=test
Google’s horizontally-scrolling menu bar appears to work well without JavaScript, and I suspect it would be screen reader-friendly too with role="menu" and role="menuitem" attributes.
