The openAI brand is now recognized much beyond the circles that know anything about it.

For most people it is "the chatGPT organization" and nothing more.

I recognize this, and pretty much all they know is the fun features they make (chat bots, art bots, whatever) and that Microsoft invested billions with them. I don't think anybody associates Microsoft with open, and everybody associates OpenAI as being effectively owned by Microsoft.

My non-technical friend once called ChatGPT "Microsoft's plaything."
