Chimpanzees will chew off the hands, feet, genitals of chimps from other troops when they capture them. Lions and other predators each animals alive. Wolves will kill outsiders not of their pack. Humans are not uniquely violent.

Humans seem to be unique in their creativity when it comes to cruelty. I don’t know that other animals maximize the psychological aspect of violence.

I can’t remember the movie now, but I remember being chilled by a character advising a soldier to shoot a man and his wife, and instructing the soldier to shoot the wife in front of the man first. That seemed uniquely human in its cruelty.
