What has really happened is that a major political group has gone from having views basically supporting the status quo power structure ("conservative") to having views at odds with the status quo power structure ("reactionary" to use Moldbug's own label). They're perceiving that their messages are suddenly being censored by the mainstream media, and chalking it up to a conspiracy with the other political party rather than the longstanding mutually interested oligarchic behavior it has always been. The censorship dynamic of mass media (including social mass media) isn't a shock to anybody that came up having politics significantly at odds with the mainstream power structure.

(I suspect there's a similar pan-political shock for the generation that isn't old enough to have had much experience being dominated by broadcast mass media and grew up with social media primacy, but before social media had really been captured by the incumbent power structure)
