That is really deep. Lake Superior’s deepest point is only 1,332 feet.

Interesting! There's a few lakes in BC that are 400m+, and Quesnel Lake is 511m (1677'). I guess I had assumed that Superior was deep as well.

The serious answer is that Lake Superior is named not for its area or volume, but for its upper altitude / upstream position relative to the other lakes.
