I think the motivation is not so much the living forever but being scared of dying. If you have children they can enjoy the future. That's how it works.

Dying involves"dust to dust, ashes to ashes". Everything we have pumped ourselves up to be is gone. That is the fear. Spend the money on teaching people death in old age is OK.
