Higher prices in exchange for basic labour rights. Seems like a price worth paying to me.

That's easy for someone making 6 figures to say, but what about someone making close to minimum wage?

It's hard to believe this comment is for real? Labour rights - including the right to a living wage and civil working conditions - benefit those on the minimum wage more than high-earners. It's not a zero-sum game.

What about the people that now can’t get jobs at the higher minimum wage? (Or the more restrictive union-based hiring). They go from $X to $0 which seems quite a downside. So it’s disingenuous to argue that it’s strictly a benefit to all workers (obviously it does benefit many).

Labour rights extend to a robust social safety net.

Robust and enforced labour rights are strictly a benefit to all workers. Only exploitative employers benefit from their absence.

You’re right that higher labor costs will cause higher prices rather than lowering of stratospheric executive compensation. But, it sounds like you’re suggesting that this is some sort of intrinsic property of an efficient market. In reality the status quo prioritizes personal greed over efficient markets.

Competition means higher prices aren’t an easy fix.

Competition also means non-union employers will dominate the market. You can’t have it both ways.

It doesn’t need to be. Giant companies that threat their workers worse than average face much stronger unionization efforts.

Which pushes markets to increased efficiency rather forcing working conditions into a race to the bottom.

We're comfortable that you'll have to pay sightly more for disposable plastic crap if it means we're not destroying worker's bodies.

I'd argue that in the long term, having healthier & happier workers who see their interests aligned with the rest of the economy will lead Amazon workers to develop skills more in demand, commit fewer crimes, take better care of their health, and contribute to their communities

Why do libertarians and ancaps always sound like they took a 101 econ course and actually like it when people suffer?
