Right you are, but in defense of the author, understanding this concept while looking through readouts done by past colleagues has also made me feel depressed at times.
Depressing? That is an unnecessary and unfortunate word choice. I would suggest 'pronounced'.
The degree to which interventions can be distinguished is not inherently good or bad. To make such an assessment, context is required.
