Depends what you want out of immigration. Consider the profile of the people who emigrate. People with PhDs are typically elites back home. So you’re selecting people who are antisocial enough to leave kith and kin behind for economic opportunities.

Not saying this pejoratively—my whole family fits this profile. But people don’t think enough about what sorts of folks we’re really bringing in and how that changes our culture.
