EDIT: An ever growing human population is not sustainable. Heck, even 8B people may not be sustainable. But I'm pretty sure that human population is not going to go to zero. We could find that something like a stable population of say 4B people is much more sustainable, but it's hard to imagine it would ever go much below that (excepting nuclear war or bioweapons that could get out of hand).
